A-2 Nose Art Felix
Felix the Cat was already one of the most famous characters in American pop culture before the Second World War.
During the war, he was used as nose art on bombers and fighter planes by crews of the U.S. Army Air Forces.
For the pilots, Felix symbolised luck, perseverance and black humour in a time of constant danger.
The A-2 leather jacket was the only part of the uniform that could be customised.
Many pilots transferred motifs from their aircraft onto their jackets – including Felix the Cat – and made them their personal companions on the front line.
This A-2 is made of horse leather, the original material used for historic flight jackets, and is based on the individually painted A-2 jackets of American pilots during the Second World War.
